TAMPA, AUG. 19, 2015 – USF Football's newest custom is a catchy name for the region at Raymond James Stadium that really brings the noise.
USF Student Government recently passed a resolution to officially rename the student section The Herd this season, which begins Saturday, Sept. 5 with a 7 p.m. home game against Florida A&M.
“The naming of 'The Herd' as our student section is an important step in building the tradition of USF Football moving forward,” Student Body President Andy Rodriguez said in a statement. “We as USF students can have a huge impact on the game by forcing opponents to compete with both our USF Bulls and the entire student body through The Herd!”
In addition to football, the student section will go by The Herd at all other USF Athletics events, including men's and women's basketball.
In an effort to make things even noisier for opponents, the Herd of Thunder marching band is moving to the middle of The Herd, located in section 148 at Raymond James Stadium. The FAMU Marching 100 band is joining the fun for the season opener and will be sitting in sections 128 and 131.
Students that will soon be filling The Herd are welcome to participate in a growing preseason football tradition called The Huddle on Friday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. at Corbett Stadium. Students and the entire football team get to interact and form a super-sized huddle while head coach Willie Taggart fires up the group about the exciting season ahead. Food will be provided at the free event that will be held in the west end zone of Corbett Stadium prior to the men's soccer team's 8 p.m. season opener against Missouri State. Students with a valid USF I.D. are free to attend the game as well.
