CARLSBAD, Calif., NOV. 2, 2015 – Cristian DiMarco's hot start and steady play from the entire lineup have the No. 26 Bulls in the thick of the title hunt at the Gifford Collegiate.
USF (+6) is tied for fifth place and five shots away from the lead after Monday's opening round at La Costa Legends Course (par-71, 6,996 yards). No. 5 Stanford (+1) and Washington (+1) are tied for the lead, followed in the top five by No. 29 Oregon (+3), No. 28 UCLA (+3), and USF, Arkansas and San Diego State at 6-over.
DiMarco started USF's final team event of the fall with a 1-under 70 that included four birdies. Playing in the lineup for the first time, the sophomore from Longwood, Fla., is just three shots behind leader Cole Madey of UCLA.
Rigel Fernandes opened with a 1-over 72 that has junior from Bradenton in a tie for 17th place. Senior Aksel Olsen is just a shot behind Fernandes in a tie for 25th place. Sophomore Claudio Correa collected an eagle and three birdies during his 4-over 75 round. Freshman Oskar Bergqvist carded a 5-over 76 that included three birdies.
