TAMPA, JAN. 15, 2016 – University of South Florida head volleyball coach Courtney Draper and her staff announced on Friday that redshirt sophomore Hannah Smith has joined the Bulls roster.
A middle blocker from Fleming Island, Fla., Smith is a three year member of the Utah State Aggies' volleyball program before transferring to USF this spring.
“We are excited to add Hannah to our USF volleyball family!,” said Coach Draper. “At 6'3, Hannah will be our tallest player, and add some much needed size & depth to our roster. We only return two middles (Joli Holland and Clara Payne) from last year's roster, so it was imperative that we added an additional middle to our program. Hannah's experience at Utah St. and in the Mountain West Conference is going to prove to be very valuable for her coming two seasons with us at USF.”
Smith appeared in 52 sets in the fall for the Aggies, totaling 41 kills and 35 blocks. Her redshirt-freshman season in 2014 was also noteworthy, registering 60 kills and 117 blocks, third most on the team.
“I also feel that she is coming in at a great time of the year,” added Draper. “It will be helpful to Hannah to be with our players in the weight room and get acclimated to our system and our team on the court.”
Smith will be a redshirt junior in 2016 when the Bulls begin their 45th season.
The USF volleyball program has reached the NCAA Tournament seven times and boasts seven conference championships. In 2016, the Bulls will return 11 players from last season including their top eight point scorers from a year ago. USF is guided by fifth year head coach Courtney Draper.
