TAMPA, FEB. 11, 2016 – USF's track and field team will look to fine-tune its skills on Friday at the Hoosier Hills Invitational before competing at the American Athletic Indoor Championships in two weeks.
The meet in Bloomington, Ind., will begin at around 4 p.m. with the 60m dash and conclude with the 4x400m relay at 10:30 p.m.
The Bulls will be competing a week after Bruce Barclay (60m hurdles), Bernicia Hollifield (weight throw), Matthew O'Neal (triple jump) and Laticia Sims (60m hurdles) all recorded first-place finishes at the Villanova Invitational.
With the conference championships looming (Feb. 28-29 in Birmingham, Ala.) many of the Bulls will look to improve on their season bests. Among the individuals competing is Devin Screen, who currently ranks third in the conference in the weight throw and seventh in the shot put. The Bulls will have seven pole vaulters competing on the men's side, including sophomore David Akins, who has the second-best height in the conference this season at 16-8.75. Freshman Joe Fogarasi and senior Winston Perry are tied for third at 16-2.75.
After running the third-fastest 60m hurdle time in school history last week, Sims will be back at it in the hurdles as well as the 60m dash. Her time of 8.46 in the hurdles is the third-fastest in the conference this season.
Freshmen Stephanie Lambeth and Frances Rice are among four individuals that will compete in the pole vault for the USF women. Lambeth's season-best of 12-1.5 ranks eighth in the conference and Rice's 11-9.75 is 10th. Another young freshman standout for the young women's team is Chelsea Francis, who has run season-best times of 7.56 in the 60m dash, which ranks eighth in the conference, and 25.12 in the 200m dash, which ranks 24th. Both are the top times for any USF runner this season.
Senior Lauren Kilts' season-best high jump of 5-7.25 is the fifth best in the conference this season.
Matthew O'Neal, who currently has an NCAA-best triple jump of 54-8, will not compete this weekend.
