TAMPA, MAY 4, 2016 – Head coach Orlando Antigua announced the signing of USC transfer Malik Martin to the USF men's basketball team on Wednesday.

Martin, a 6-foot-11, 220-pound forward from Miami, averaged 1.8 points and 1.5 rebounds in 6.6 minutes per game last season as a sophomore. As a freshman, he compiled 5.2 points and 3.6 rebounds while leading the Trojans with a .524 shooting percentage.

“Malik is long, athletic and runs well,” Antigua said. “He is a skilled forward that will use this season to get stronger. As a senior and junior in high school, he was one of the top guys in the country. After playing two years at USC, Malik wanted to come back to the state of Florida and be closer to home. I'm happy to add such a personable kid to our program. People will really enjoy having him on campus.”

Martin is familiar with the Bay Area, having played his senior season of high school basketball at Faith Baptist in Brandon, Fla. He averaged 19 points and 12 rebounds per game and was the No. 4-ranked player in Florida according to 247Sports.com, the No. 33 power forward by Scout.com and the No. 109 overall prospect according to Rivals.com. Prior to Faith Baptist, Martin averaged 17.2 points per game in his final season at Northeast High in Miami.

Martin must sit out the 2016-17 season due to NCAA transfer rules. He will have two years of eligibility remaining, beginning with the 2017-18 season.

The USF men's basketball team is led by Orlando Antigua, who will begin his third season as the head coach after spending the previous six season as an assistant to Naismith Hall of Fame coach John Calipari. The Bulls will return six from last season's team including American Athletic Conference All-Rookie Team member Jahmal McMurray who scored the second-most points ever by a USF freshman last season. The Bulls will also have four additions that sat out last season; Tulio Da Silva, Troy Holston Jr. Isaiah Manderson and Geno Thorpe. Newcomers eligible to play next season include the three that signed with the Bulls in fall - Troy Baxter, Andres Feliz and Malik Fitts.

USF has retired three numbers in its 45-year history: Chucky Atkins (12), Charlie Bradley (30) and Radenko Dobras (31). The Bulls have earned three NCAA tournament bids and appeared in the NIT eight times. In the 2011-12 season, USF was one win away from an appearance in the Sweet 16.
