Athletics posts above 3.0 combined GPA for sixth straight term
34 football and 40 women's track and cross country student-athletes lead team members named to Honor Roll
 
TAMPA, JAN. 12, 2018– University of South Florida Athletics continued to excel in the classroom during the 2017 fall term as 239 student-athletes earned USF Athletics Honor Roll recognition. Women's track and cross country, with 40 student-athletes named to the Honor Roll, and the football team, with 34, led USF teams earning recognition.
 
Nearly 450 USF student-athletes also posted a combined term grade-point average of 3.02 during the fall, marking the sixth straight term in which Athletics has exceeded a 3.0 GPA and the seventh in the last eight terms. USF saw 13 of 17 programs post above a 3.0 team GPA during the recently completed fall semester.
 
"I continue to be incredibly proud of the performance of our student-athletes in the classroom and the work being done by our Academic Services staff and coaches to ensure that success," USF Director of Athletics Mark Harlan said. "We are sustaining a record level of achievement with six straight semesters above a 3.0 GPA, and with new facilities, such as the Fishman Family Student-Athlete Enrichment Center, we will build on that success."
 
The Bulls had 248 student-athletes post above a 3.0 term GPA in the fall, with 239 of those meeting the criteria to be named to the USF Athletics Academic Honor Roll. USF saw 28 student-athletes post a perfect 4.0 GPA in the fall and 122 earn above a 3.5.
 
On the men's side, Honor Roll recognition was earned by 34 members of the football team, 17 soccer, 13 track and cross country, 11 basketball, nine baseball, seven tennis, and five golf team members.
 
On the women's side, Honor Roll recognition was earned by 40 track and cross country student-athletes, 22 sailing, 22 soccer, 20 softball, 11 volleyball, 10 basketball, 10 golf and eight tennis team members.
 
The Bulls posted a Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 80 percent or better for all student-athletes for the fourth straight year when the NCAA announced GSR numbers for all Division I institutions in the fall. USF student-athletes posted a GSR of 82 percent in the most recent data.
 
USF saw 16 student-athletes graduate following the 2017 fall semester and graduated 106 student-athletes in 2016-17.

USF Athletics sponsors 19 varsity men's and women's teams that compete in 11 different sports, 18 at the NCAA Division I level in the American Athletic Conference. The Bulls' athletic program celebrated its 50^th anniversary in 2015, having begun with a men's soccer contest in 1965. Nearly 500 student-athletes train and compete in the athletic district located on the east end of the campus in Tampa, Fla. The Bulls have claimed 13 American Athletic Conference team titles since joining the conference in 2013, including four in 2016-17, and own 110 conference championships overall. Ten USF programs reached national post-season competition in the 2016-17 season and nine were ranked in the Top 25 nationally. The Bulls posted a program-record 86 percent Graduation Success Rate in 2016, logged an annual department grade-point average over a 3.0 for the second straight year and saw 106 student-athletes earn their degree during the 2016-17 academic period.
