The Bulls Post First Win of the Season Against Troy
TAMPA (Feb. 3, 2018)— Freshman Evelyne Tiron (Romania) propelled the USF women's tennis team to its first victory of the season Saturday afternoon at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
The Bulls went into singles play with the advantage after winning the doubles point. Freshman Alexandria Mjos (Austin, Texas) took the first singles win on court five by retirement, 4-1, after her opponent was injured.
Shortly after, Vanja Klaric (Serbia) won in the three spot in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. Tiron also won in straight sets, securing the win for the Bulls with a 6-2, 6-2, victory at the No. 2 spot against Nancy Karaky (Beirut, Lebanon).
After the match was clinched, Nicole Dezenga (Harare, Zimbabwe) won with her second set ending in a tie break, 6-2, 7-6(3).
Jessica Cortes Chaves played an intense match to a third set which was decided by a super tie-breaker. In the end, she fell to her opponent on court one, 6-2, 3-6, 10-6.
Freshman Marcela Ifju fell to Pei Ju Hsieh (Changhua, Taiwan) on court six, 6-2, 6-3.
On court one, juniors Klaric and Dzenga defeated their opponent, 6-1 to start the match. On court three, Mjos and sophomore Janvhi Clark (Tauranga, New Zealand) secured the doubles point, 6-2, against Maria Casas Blas (Alcalá de Henares, Spain) and Matea Mihaljevic (Osijek, Croatia).

"It was definitely nice to get a win," said head coach Cristina Moros. "We won fourth point at about an hour and a half in, so that felt really good. We still need to make some adjustments. We have a little time in practice before we play our next match against Texas. Getting a win is always good, but getting a win convincingly is great."
