Ennis Wins Triple Jump in Outdoor Opener
ORLANDO, Fla., MARCH 16, 2018 – Junior
D'angelo Ennis got the outdoor season going for the USF track and field team with an event victory, taking the triple jump at the UCF Black and Gold Challenge on Friday.
David Bell added a second place finish in the pole vault, while two different Bulls placed on the USF outdoor top-10 charts with their performances on day one of the two-day event in Orlando.
Ennis (Kingston, Jamaica) got the first event victory of the outdoor season with his triple jump mark of 49-7.25. He picked up just where he left off in the indoor season, when he had three event wins and a second place performance at the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships that earned him all-conference honors.
Bell, a junior out of Jacksonville, placed second in the pole vault with a mark of 16-10.75. Bell captured three top-two performances in the indoor season and got off to a strong start in outdoor.
Freshman
Brittany Krug (Edensburg, Pa.) started her USF career with an appearance on the USF outdoor top-10 list, throwing a distance of 133-00 in the women's javelin. The mark is seventh-best in USF history. Krug finished sixth in the event.
Freshman
Rania Samhouri (Tampa) placed seventh in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:38.54. The time gives Samhouri the 10
th best mark in USF outdoor history.
Other Notable Performances
- POLE VAULT: Freshman Casey Phelan (Uniontown, Pa.) placed sixth in the women's pole vault, clearing a height of 11-11.75.
- 800 METERS: Yohance Haynes (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) took fifth in the men's 800 meters, running a time of 1:52.75.
