Bulls Rake In Honors After Dominant Week

TAMPA, MARCH 19, 2018 – USF baseball redshirt sophomore lefty Shane McClanahan (Cape Coral, Fla.) was named the American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week and Joe Genord (Lake Worth, Fla.) was named the Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

McClanahan and sophomore righty Carson Ragsdale (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) were recognized as two of Collegiate Baseball's National Players of the Week for their combined no-hitter on Friday night. The duo tossed the first combined no-hitter in program history during a 12-0 win over Army. McClanahan struck out a career-high 15 batters over the first 6.0 innings. Ragsdale pitched the final 3.0 frames, as he fanned seven batters. The 22 combined strikeouts set a school record.

For the conference honors, this is the second time that the Bulls swept the weekly awards in The American. McClanahan picked up his third pitcher of the week honor after another brilliant start in what turned out to be a special night for USF. In addition to his 15 strikeouts over six shutout innings, McClanahan also extended his NCAA-best scoreless innings streak to 30.2 to start the season, and is the only player in the country to have yet to allow an earned run. He leads the nation with 56 strikeouts on the year and is averaging 16.43 per nine innings.

Genord had a monster week at the plate, helping the Bulls extend their winning streak to eight in a row. The junior went 9-for-18 (.500) with six runs scored, three doubles, four home runs and 11 RBI. He homered in four-straight games prior to Sunday and had three doubles to boost a 1.333 slugging percentage.

About USF Baseball
The University of South Florida baseball team is one of the fastest rising programs in the country. The Bulls earned just their second and third wins over top-five ranked teams with victories against then-No. 3 Florida State and at then-No. 5 Florida during the 2017 season. During the 2017 season, USF reached the 40-win mark for the first time since 1996 and entered the top-25 in the major collegiate baseball polls for the first time since 2013. The USF Baseball program has won five conference titles and the Bulls have made 12 NCAA appearances.
