Jacksonville Natives Shine at UNF
FULL RESULTS
JACKSONVILLE, April 27, 2018 – USF track and field closed out the outdoor regular season on Friday in Jacksonville at the North Florida Invite hosted by UNF. The Bulls had another impressive day to finish the season on a high note, collecting four event victories and 12 additional top five finishes.
The day was led by two Jacksonville natives, with
David Bell and
Chelsea Francis each getting event victories in their hometown meet. Bell got the first victory, taking the pole vault for his third victory in three weeks with a mark of 17-2.00.
Francis got the first Bulls win on the track, capturing the title in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.72 seconds for her first victory of the outdoor season. Francis also placed on the podium in the 100 meters, finishing second in that event with a time of 11.62 seconds. The time is her second-fastest this season and ties for her best finish in the 100 in 2018.
The North Florida Invite kicked off with the Bulls in the field getting their chance in the spotlight first, and they definitely shined. In addition to Bell's win in the pole vault, the Bulls posted two more wins and had 10 total top-five finishes in the field.
Freshman
Brittany Krug (Edensburg, Pa.) joined Bell in having consecutive winning weeks, taking the javelin title with a mark of 139-0. She also won the event last week at Rice, posting a 142-10 in Houston.
Junior
Bruce Robinson (Little Falls, N.Y.) had the third Bulls victory, winning the hammer throw with a mark of 192-5. The throw is a personal best for Robinson and gives him the second-best throw in USF outdoor history. The Bulls swept the top two spots in the hammer throw, with senior
Zach Diaczynsky (Naples, Fla.) taking second with a personal best throw of 186-11.75. The mark improves Diaczynsky's hold on fourth place all-time on the outdoor charts. Diaczynsky also competed in the shot put and also finished second in that event with a mark of 53-7.25.
As evening fell at the University of North Florida, focus shifted to the track. The Bulls had Francis' event win and six total top-five finishes in the running events.
Sophomore
Curtis Thomas (Auburndale, Fla.) joined Francis on the podium in a sprint event, notching a second place finish in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.54 seconds. The finish is Thomas' highest this season and his third-fastest time of 2018.
