Bulls Dominate Conference Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (May 9, 2018) – The American regular season champion Bulls dominated the conference honors, including five first team all-conference selections, the league announced Wednesday.

USF was selected as coaching staff of the year, and freshman Georgina Corrick was named co-pitcher and rookie of the year, and to the all-rookie team. Corrick, Lauren Evans, Astin Donovan, Amber Atkinson, and Lindsey Devitt were named first team all-conference.

The American coaching staff of the year, head coach Ken Eriksen and assistant coaches Jessica Moore and Laura Ricciardone, guided USF to the top of the American standings through every week of conference play. They led USF to its seventh conference championship, and second in the last three years. Under their guidance, USF has reached a 36-20 record, 14-7 in The American, and enters postseason as the No. 1 seed and host in conference tournament.

Corrick is an incredible force for the Bulls and threw USF's first no-hitter since 2015 against UNF this season. She is the first USF freshman to throw a no-hitter since 1996. The Sanford, Fla., native set her career high strikeouts at 12, and met it for a second time this season in her first War on I-4 game in a 4-1 win over UCF. She leads the Bulls' pitching staff with a 1.54 ERA, 15 wins and three solo shutouts. She has pitched 154.1 innings and 10 complete games. The British National Team pitcher has thrown 152 strikeouts and held opponents to a .201 batting average.

Evans (Land O' Lakes, Fla.) is a first team all-conference selection for the second time in her career. During her sophomore season, she was a unanimous first-team selection, and she was named to the second team after her junior season. This season, Evans reached the milestone of 1,000 career putouts and has batted .287 for USF in her senior campaign. She has appeared in 53 games with 43 hits, 29 runs and 292 putouts.

Donovan (Guilford, Conn.) is named to the first team all-conference for the first time in her career after being named to the second team during her sophomore and junior seasons. As a senior this season, she surpassed the impressive mark of 200 career hits and is just the 13th Bull in program history to reach the feat. Donovan has anchored the outfield since her freshman season and has started in all 21 games of conference play this season, when she batted .422. She is 13-for-16 in stolen bases.

Atkinson (Citrus, Fla.) has helped the Bulls in many facets, including as a designated hitter and an outfielder. The redshirt senior averages .360 with a .600 slugging percentage. She has recorded 27 hits, 11 runs and 21 RBI this season in 38 game appearances.

Devitt (Jacksonville, Fla.) leads the team at bat with a .375 average and has appeared in 55 games for USF. The junior has recorded 54 hits, 33 runs and an incredible 37 RBI this season. She has a .556 slugging percentage, and .420 on base percentage with 80 total bases this season. She has been the Bulls' primary second baseman with 43 putouts and 47 assists.

USF is set to host the conference tournament May 10-12. Play begins at 10 a.m. Thursday, and the Bulls play No. 8 UConn at 6:30 p.m. that evening.
