Weiss Named to Lou Groza Award Watch List
TAMPA, FLA., JULY 25, 2019 – USF junior
Coby Weiss has been named to the 2019 Lou Groza Award Preseason Watch List, making the watch list for the award recognizing the nation's most outstanding collegiate kicker.
Weiss (Gainesville) becomes the fourth Bull named to a national award watch list prior to the 2019 season, joining senior tight end
Mitchell Wilcox (Mackey Award), senior tackle
Marcus Norman (Outland Trophy) and junior defensive back
Mike Hampton (Jim Thorpe Award).
A second team all-conference selection by Phil Steele in 2019, Weiss appeared in 12 games as a walk-on in his first season on the field for the Bulls. He made 15-of-18 field goal attempts on the year and led the team in scoring with 80 points, the seventh-best mark in program history. He made his last nine field goal attempts on the season, tying the fourth longest consecutive field goal streak in program history.
Weiss ranked second in The American with 15 made field goals and fourth hitting 83.3 percent on the year, the second-best mark in program history. He hit 35-of-39 PAT on the year and recorded 16 points in the Bulls' win at UMass, the third-best game scoring mark in USF history.
