Men’s Basketball (1982-85)
Sun Belt Conference All-Decade Team member Charlie Bradley is generally considered the greatest men's basketball player to ever play at USF.
The forward from Tampa (Robinson HS) was the first player in program history to have his jersey number retired (retired on Feb. 14, 1987). Bradley is USF's career scoring leader with 2,319 points, despite playing just one season with the three-point shot. He averaged better than 20 points per game in three seasons, scored in double figures in an astonishing 84 consecutive games, and scored 30 or more points 24 times.
Bradley led USF to its first 20-win season in 1982-83 as the program posted a 22-10 record and earned its second-ever postseason bid to the NIT. USF played in two NITs in the Bradley era, also earning an invitation in 1985.
Bradley was a three-time first team All-Sun Belt Conference selection, earning the honor as a sophomore, junior and senior. He averaged a school-record 28.2 points per game as a sophomore and was named the 1983 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year after finishing fifth in the nation in scoring. Bradley was one of 10 players selected to the Sun Belt Conference All-Decade Team, which recognized the league's achievements following its first 10 years (1976-86).
Bradley posted career averages of 19.7 points and 5.4 rebounds per game as he lettered in four seasons and helped the Bulls go 73-44 during his career.
Bradley was selected in the third round of the 1985 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings and went on to play professionally in Europe, South America and Venezuela.
Bradley was inducted into the USF Athletics Hall of Fame with the first class in 2009.
