Men’s Soccer (1974-77)

Fergus Hopper first made USF men’s soccer history as the program’s first All-American, an honor he earned in three straight seasons from 1974-76, in addition to his many other achievements as a Bull.

Playing fullback for the Bulls, Hopper was a four-time selection to both the All-South Team and the All-Florida State Team. Hopper also was named to the 1976 Sun Belt All-Tournament Team after leading the Bulls to two NCAA tournament appearances. As a senior, Hopper was a finalist for the 1977 Herman Award, the college soccer equivalent of the Heisman Trophy.

In addition to being named USF Athlete of the Year in 1974-75, Hopper received four athletic meritorious service awards for his work in the community.

On the pitch, Hopper led Bulls to a 36-18-4 record over his four-year career and NCAA appearances in 1973 and 1975. Following his standout collegiate career, Hopper was drafted by Washington in the American Professional Soccer Association.

Hopper became the second member of men’s soccer to be inducted into the USF Athletics Hall of Fame in 2011.
