Cincinnati (5-4, 4-2) can get to the magic six-win mark with a victory over the Bulls, while a USF (4-4, 3-3) win would give the Bulls five wins with two home games still to play (Memphis and Pittsburgh). The 3:30 p.m. game will be televised on Sunshine Network throughout Florida, and it is also part of the ESPN Game Plan package. It can also be heard in Tampa Bay on WTBN 570 & 910.
USF is coming off back-to-back 500-plus yard games on offense with wins over UAB and East Carolina. Cincinnati, meanwhile, comes off a bye week, but could be the hottest team in Conference USA with three-straight wins over Memphis, TCU and Southern Miss prior to the bye. The Bearcat offense put up 49 points on Memphis and 52 at Southern Miss.
The Bulls are also hot, though, riding a two-game win streak after Saturday evening's 41-17 win over East Carolina in Raymond James Stadium.
Pat Julmiste had his best career night at quarterback and Andre Hall had his third 100-yard rushing night in the last four games.
Julmiste finished the night 12 of 16 for 233 yards, no interceptions and no sacks, while Hall had 161 yards on 27 carries. His touchdown run was the 10th of the season, breaking the USF school record, while his 100-yard game tied a school record as his fourth of the season.
Freshman receiver Johnny Peyton continued his strong play of late with three catches for 76 yards, including a long of 56 yards.
Rodrigo Hidalgo and Simon Schoendorf Named C-USA Co-Freshmen of the YearForward Rodrigo Hidalgo and midfielder Simon Schoendorf were named Conference USA Co-Freshmen of the Year, as selected by the league's coaches. A total of seven Bulls earned all-conference honors as the league announced its postseason honors on Nov. 10.
Hidalgo finished the 2004 regular season with a team-high 18 points (6g, 6a). The Atlantis, Fla., native ranked ninth in the conference in points per game (1.12). He finished second on the team in goal (6) and game-winning goals (3). Schoendorf, the team leader in assists (7), finished the season with four goals and seven assists for 15 points. The Karlsrhue, Germany, native ranked third in C-USA in assists per game (0.44).
This is the first time in the league's 10-year history that two players have shared the Freshman of the Year Award. This also marks only the second time a USF player has earned the Freshman of the Year award (Hunter West, 2002).
In addition, sophomore Kareem Smith earned first team all-conference honors while Schoendorf and sophomores Keeron Benito and Dane Brenner were named to the second team. Two Bulls (Hidalgo and West) received third team honors. First-year players Christian Jimenez, Schoendorf and Hidalgo were named to the C-USA All-Freshman Team.
Men's Soccer Ousted From C-USA TournamentThe USF men's soccer team dropped its opening match of the 2004 Dr. Mark Lynn & Associates, PLLC Conference USA Men's Soccer Championship, falling 2-0 to the Saint Louis Billikens on Friday, Nov. 12, at Cardinal Park in Louisville, Ky.
Saint Louis took a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute on a goal by Alex Matteson. Receiving a long pass from defender Brian Gasparovic, Matteson chipped a shot form 17 yards out over goalkeeper Dane Brenner, who was charging off his line.
USF's best chance of the half to draw the game even was on a 27th-minute shots by Hunter West from just inside the Billiken's area. The shot was saved by Saint Louis goalkeeper Pat Disbennett to preserve the Billikens' 1-0 lead.
The Billikens extended their lead in the 77th minute on Matteson's second goal of the afternoon. Capitalizing on a defensive turnover in USF's third of the field, Matteson sent a shot past a diving Brenner to give Saint Louis a 2-0 lead. USF nearly answered in the 81st minute when a free kick from 25 yards out by Christian Jimenez glanced off the post and out of the Billikens' area.
Defender Brandon Streicher set the school record for games played during a career with his 75th-consecutive match.
Volleyball Drops Two in Final Weekend of Season; Receives 10th Seed in C-USA TournamentThe USF volleyball team suffered a disspointing weekend in its final two regular-season conference matches after losses to both Southern Miss (3-0) and Tulane (3-0).
The Bulls fell against the Golden Eagles, despite having four players notch double-digit kills, including the Bulls' three starting freshmen.
Freshman Michelle Stalbaum led the way with a match-high 14 kills and three service aces to lead the Bulls, while fellow freshman Kristina Fabris came in just behind her with 12 kills and two block assists.
Rachel Reichert, also a freshman, had her best match to date, notching double-digit kills for the first time in her career with 10 while committing only two errors in 18 swings for a team-high .444 hitting percentage.
The Bulls' most consistent player this season, junior Flavia Silveira, was the only player to tally a double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs in the three games.
Against Tulane USF was bested by the Green Wave in both kills and hitting percentage, 58 to 41 and .250 to .169.
The Bulls were led by junior Flavia Silveira with a team-high 16 kills and 14 digs, the only Bull to tally double-digits in either category.
USF will face in-state foe Jacksonville at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 16, before heading to Louisville, Ky., for the ChevronTexaco Conference USA Tournament where the Bulls have received the No. 10 seed and will face No. 7 seed Saint Louis at 6 p.m. on Friday.

USF jumped out to a 10-2 lead, but the Blue Devils regrouped and handed the "Green and Gold" its first loss of the season, 82-50. Anedra Gilmore scored a team-high 14 points. Bulls Take 76-66 Exhibition Win From Saint LeoJunior college transfer Solomon Jones had 16 points, 16 rebounds and five blocked shots to lead the University of South Florida to a 76-66 exhibition win over Saint Leo in the Sun Dome Friday night. The final margin distorts what was a hotly contested battle that wasn't tipped completely in the Bulls' favor until back-to-back three pointers by Brian Swift and Marius Prekevicius made it 69-64 with 3:34 remaining.
Prekevicius and Swift each had 13 points, but Terrence Leather led all scorers with 19 points to go with 12 rebounds.
Saint Leo led for much of the first half, although USF was able to put together a 12-2 run to take a 33-26 lead at the 3:02 mark after the Lions had held a 24-21 lead just six minutes earlier. Still, Saint Leo held tough, cutting the deficit to just 36-35 at halftime, largely on the impressive three-point shooting from Marquis McCullough and Scott Seifert.
In the second half, Saint Leo opened with a 10-5 run to take its largest lead at 46-41 with 16:37 remaining when Seifert hit one of his five three-point baskets in the game. The Bulls responded with a 14-2 run to take a 55-48 lead on a Terrence Leather layup at 11:37, but the Lions simply wouldn't go away and actually led by one with 5:58 left before the Swift and Prekivicius three pointers propelled the Bulls to the win.
USF opens its regular season Saturday against Stephen F. Austin at 7 p.m. in the Sun Dome.
