September 12, 2006 | Women's Golf
Tampa, Fla. (Sept. 12, 2006) ? University of South Florida alum Kelly Lagedrost has accepted the position of interim women's golf coach for the Bulls for the upcoming season.
“This is going to be a wonderful experience,” said Lagedrost. “I am very excited to act as interim coach for the USF women's golf team. It is an honor to work at such an established university.”
Lagedrost fills the void left by Susan Holt, who accepted the head coach position at Notre Dame last month.
“We believe Kelly Lagedrost is the ideal person to lead our women's golf program as it transitions from Susan Holt,” says USF Director of Athletics Doug Woolard. “Kelly was an outstanding student and golfer in Coach Holt's program and has first hand knowledge of the hard work it takes to be successful as a collegiate student-athlete. We feel like Kelly will keep our program moving forward in smooth fashion.”
Lagedrost has been a professional golfer since 2001 and is a member of the Duramed Futures Tour and the LPGA Tour. Lagedrost has made 59 cuts in five years on tour, including six top-10 finishes since 2002.
The 2005 golf season was a break-out year for the Brooksville, Fla., native as she participated in the Women's U.S. Open. That same season she carded a 63 at the 2005 Lima Memorial Hospital Futures Classic in Lima, Ohio, to set the tournament course record. Lagedrost was the runner up at the first stage of the LPGA qualifier school, earning non-exempt status for the 2006 season. Lagedrost was 22nd on the money list in 2005.
In 2003 Lagedrost advanced to the final stage of the LPGA Q-school and was 42nd on the money list. She played in 17 tournaments, making 12 cuts and earned status for the 2004 season.
In her first year as a professional, Lagedrost played 19 tournaments on the Futures Tour, making 16 cuts and finishing in the top 10 twice. She was 43rd on the money list and advanced to the final stage of the LPGA Q-school.
Lagedrost is a three-time NCGA Academic All-American and was an All-Conference USA First Team selection four times while at USF. She holds USF records for lowest 18-hole total (66 in 1998 on par-70 University of Florida course) and lowest 54-hole total (213 at 1998 UNC Tar Heel Invite). Lagedrost earned top-10 finishes in nine-of-10 events in 1998-99 and was the first USF player to win the NCAA Regional (1999). She was selected C-USA Player of the Year in 2000-01 and owns a spot on the C-USA Team of the Decade.
Lagedrost was the USF Female Athlete of the Year and the USF Alumni Association Student-Athlete of the Year in 1998-99. That season she was the NCAA East Regional medalist, carding a 72-73-70 ? 215, and earned First Team all-America status. At the NCAA Championships that season, Lagedrost registered a 79-75-78 ? 232 to tie for 43rd.
Lagedrost, the 1996 Florida State High School champion, earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education in 2001. When she is not playing on tour, Lagedrost is a substitute teacher for the Hernando County School System.
