TAMPA -- Sophomore wide receiver Dontavia Bogan was named the BIG EAST Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday morning, while senior LB Tyrone McKenzie was named to the weekly honor roll.
Bogan needed just two kickoff returns to rack up 135 yards. He set up the Bulls first touchdown with a 64-yard return and followed that up with a 71-yard return just before the half. UConn did not kick to him again.
Bogan also broke the USF single season record for returns, 25, and kickoff return yardage, 652, last night. The record for returns in a season was previously held by Jerome Murphy, who had 23 last season. The yardage mark was initially set in 1999 by DeAndrew Rubin, who had 578 yards.
He also set the USF single game record for return average (67.5).
The Bulls sealed a bowl berth with the 17-13 win over UConn and improved to 7-4 on the season and 2-4 in BIG EAST play.
USF will return to action on Saturday Dec. 6, when they travel to West Virginia. The game will be played at either Noon or 8 p.m. Eastern and will air on of the ESPN body of networks. A decision on the game time will not be made until, at the earliest, Saturday, Nov. 29.
