T-Mac's Attack on the USF Record Books

USF Bowl Game Notes | Bowl CentralTyrone McKenzie

TAMPA --
Senior linebacker Tyrone McKenzie is coming off back-to-back stellar outings.

The Riverview native had 16 tackles and three tackles for loss against Connecticut and the nation's leading rusher, Donald Brown.  Then McKenzie had 11 tackles and 2.5 TFL in holding West Virginia legend Pat White to just 40 yards rushing in the regular season finale.

He enters his final collegiate game with 105 tackles and with his USF single-season record of 121 within striking distance.

T-Mac Attack
Tyrone McKenzie has attacked the USF record books since transferring to USF prior to the 2007 season.  McKenzie already owns the USF single-season record for tackles (121 in 2007) and against West Virginia he clinched the USF record for tackles over two seasons (226).  Below is  breakdown of the top two-year tackle totals in USF history:

Active Leaders in Tackles  - 2006-2008
Tyrone McKenzie, who played began his career at Michigan State before transferring to Iowa State (2006) and then USF,  may be the most underrated linebacker in America.  Transferring a couple times is probably the reason, because as the numbers below show, it certainly isn't production:

Player School 08/07/06=Total
Gerald McRath S. Miss 126/139/104 = 369
James Laurinaitis Ohio State 121/121/115 = 357
Tyrone McKenzie USF  105/121/129 = 355
Daniel Holtzclaw E. Michigan  107/125/114 = 346
Clayton Mullins Miami (Ohio)  105/143/91 = 339

McKenzie is second in the BIG EAST in tackles, fifth in tackles for loss per game (1.17) and third in passes defended (8).
