Bulls Prevail Over Orange 4-0

TAMPA, Fla. ? The No. 3 seed University of South Florida women's tennis team advanced to the semifinals and earned the right to face the No. 2 seed Louisville Cardinals after their 4-0 victory against the Syracuse Orange, Friday afternoon in the 2008 BIG EAST Tennis Championships.
I think they competed really well,” said USF head coach Agustin Moreno. “It's also tough to play your first match in the tournament after your opponent has already played the day before.”
The win brings USF's record to 17-5 on the season and has won 10 straight matches. The Bulls are a perfect 17-0 when playing outdoors and are a perfect 9-0 when playing matches at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts. This is the second victory of the season for the women's tennis team against Syracuse. They defeated the Orange 6-1 on March 16.
The Bulls started off the tournament strong by taking all three doubles matches. The No. 2 doubles team of Jessica Zok and Lauren Shumate clinched the match for USF with their 8-3 victory over Jacquelyn Tang and Ashley Spicer of Syracuse.
In singles competition, USF picked up where they left off winning three-straight matches to advance to the semifinals of the BIG EAST Championships.
Freshman Natalia Guevara won the deciding match at the No. 6 spot with her 6-0, 6-0 win over Tang.
“This team is playing much better then they were in the beginning of the season,” said Moreno. “We had some tough matches indoors early in the season and we are clearly a much better team when we play outdoors.”
The Bulls also picked up victories from senior Liz Cruz and freshman Janette Bejlkova who record her first BIG EAST Championships victory of her career. The No. 60 ranked player in the country improves her record to a perfect 15-0 on the season.
The Bulls will take on the Louisville Cardinals in the semifinals tomorrow at 9 a.m. at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts. Earlier in the year, the Cards got the best of the Bulls 4-3 in Louisville, Kentucky.
