Grothe Picks Up Second Big East Weekly Honor

TAMPA -- For the second time this season, USF junior quarterback Matt Grothe has been named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week.

Grothe accounted for 327 yards of total offense and one passing touchdown in the Bulls 41-10 win over NC State.

Grothe was 20-29 and passed for 259 yards, including 208 in the first half.  He completed his first 11 passes and had the Bulls up 14-3 before he threw an incompletion.

He also rushed for a season-best and game-high 68 yards on nine carries.

It is the fourth time in his career that he has received the recognition.  The other two honors came in 2006.

Grothe has thrown 107 passes since his last interception (fourth quarter against UCF). He has not thrown an interception in four of five games this season.  During the streak he has completed 64.4 percent of his passes.  Grothe had nine career games without an interception coming into 2008.

The No. 10 Bulls host the Pittsburgh Panthers and a live national audience on Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast by ESPN with the first-rate crew of Chris Fowler, Erin Andrews, Jessie Palmer and Craig James calling the action.

Tickets are still available through Ticketmaster.com and GoUSFBulls.com.
