
Kevin Patrick to Face His Alma Mater
During his playing days, USF defensive line coach Kevin Patrick was an All-American defensive end at the University of Miami from 1989-93.
He was a major contributor on the Hurricane team that claimed two National Championships with wins over Nebraska in the 1992 Orange Bowl and over Alabama in the 1990 Sugar Bowl. Patrick also played in the Cotton and Fiesta Bowls during his career.
He is the second individual in the USF program to have earned BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year honors. Patrick claimed his in 1993, while two-time All-American George Selvie earned that honor last season.
Patrick earned his All-America honors and team MVP accolades in 1993 when he collected 10 sacks. During his career he tallied 174 tackles and 23 sacks, which ranks fifth in program history.

• Patrick was coached on the defensive line by current UM head coach Randy Shannon in 1992.

• Current Miami assistant Michael Barrow was a teammate of Patrick and also earned All-American honors during his career. Barrow was an All-American in 1992.

• USF co-defensive coordinator David Blackwell was 1-1 against Miami during his time at Clemson. Both games were overtime contests, with Clemson winning on the road (24-17 ) in 2004 and losing in three overtimes at home in 2005 (36-30).
• While serving as the linebackers coach at Pitt from 2000-02, Blackwell was on the losing end of three games against Miami.
• Carl Franks was at two schools with significant histories against UM - Duke and Florida - from 1987-2003, yet he never faced the Canes until he came to USF and the Bulls played at Miami in 2005.
• As a coach John Hendrick was defeated by Miami once at Pitt (1984), twice at Temple (1993, 1994) and never faced the Canes while a student-athlete at Pitt.
• Tight ends coach Steve Bird fell to Miami three times while on the staff at Pitt (1993-95) and three times while at West Virginia (2001-03).
• USF director of high school relations Rich Rachel was the secondary coach at the University of Tampa when they lost to Miami, 28-26, in 1974.
• The younger brother of USF recruiting assistant Mary Trump is A.J. Trump, the starting offensive guard for the Canes.
