Allen, Selvie & Murphy Accept Invites to Senior Bowl

MOBILE, Ala. -- USF defensive end George Selvie will have an opportunity to start his professional career not far from where his high school career began.  The Pensacola, Fla. native is one of three USF players to accept an invitation to the 2010 Under Armour Senior Bowl, game officials announced today.  Safety Nate Allen and cornerback Jerome Murphy will also join Selvie in Mobile for the senior showcase event.  The game is scheduled for January 30th at 3 pm (CT) in Mobile's Ladd-Peebles Stadium and will be televised live by the NFL Network.

Selvie, who starred at Pine Forest High School, is the only two-time All-American in USF history.  A second team All-BIG EAST selection this season, Selvie is the NCAA's active career leader in tackles for a loss with 69.5-which is 5.5 shy of the NCAA record.  He has a USF record 29 career sacks and enjoyed his most prolific year as a sophomore, earning BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year honors that year while totaling a school and conference single season record 31.5 tackles for a loss.

This season Selvie ranks second on the team with 9.5 tackles for a loss and is third in sacks with 3.5.  He is the second player from Pine Forest High School to be named to the Senior Bowl's South roster, joining Alabama's Mike Johnson.

"I'm honored to accept an invitation to the Senior Bowl and begin the next stage in my career," Selvie said.  "I've worked for five years to have the opportunity to move to the next level and being a part of the Senior Bowl provides the biggest stage and best opportunity for my professional goals."

The three USF invites is the most in program history.

Allen was also a second team All-BIG EAST selection this year.  He led the Bulls with four interceptions on the season and ranks fourth all-time in school history with nine.  He is second on the team with 79 total tackles this year and was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week after picking off two passes in a win over Syracuse on October 3rd.

"It's required a lot of hard work and diligence to get to this point, and will require much more work in advance of Senior Bowl week," Allen said.  "I'm proud of my teammates that will be joining me in Mobile; they are deserving of this recognition and opportunity.  It's an honor for each of us to represent USF and the BIG EAST."

Murphy, like Selvie and Allen, also picked up second-team All-BIG EAST honors this year.  The New Jersey native ranks third on the team with 71 total tackles and second with three interceptions this season.  His best effort of the season came against Rutgers in which he totaled 14 tackles.  He also has six pass breakups, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery on the year.

The Bulls will close out their season this Saturday (January 2nd) in the International Bowl against Northern Illinois.
