Bulls Claim Fifth Place at 2009 BIG EAST Championship

TAMPA ? After dropping the doubles point, the University of South Florida women's tennis team responded by taking four singles matches to knock off the Marquette 4-3 in the fifth place match of the 2009 BIG EAST Championship at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.

By dropping the doubles point, the Bulls found themselves in a whole early but the Bulls would take control early in singles as they Bulls register victories in the No. 1 through 4 singles.
The Bulls would even the score as juniors Jessica Zok and Ally Mueller and sophomore Natalia Guevara tallied victories to even the score at three.
Guevara defeated Christina Ruiz, 6-0, 6-0. Meller took care of Rachael Hush, 6-4, 6-2, and Zok held off Olga Fischer 6-1, 6-2 to tie the match at three.
Sophomore Irene Rehberger clinched the win with a straight set win ,6-4, 6-0, over Paola Calderon in the No. 1 singles. The countries 72nd ranked singles player is now 13-2 on the season. She will now await to see if her resume is good enough to enter the singles draw of the NCAA singles draw.
The Bulls finish the season 8-13 and 2-1 in the BIG EAST.
