TAMPA- In addition to Lindsay Lamar being named 2010 BIG EAST Special Team Player of the year, six members of the University of South Florida football team were recognized by the BIG EAST coaches, highlighted by senoirs C Sampson Genus and DT Terrell McClain being named to the first team.
Also, seniors WR Dontavia Bogan, CB Mistral Raymond, OT Jacob Sims and LB Jacquian Williams were selected to the All-BIG EAST second team.
After being named All-BIG EAST second team in 2009, Genus earned first-team honors after starting all 12 games in 2010, anchoring the Bulls offensive line. A team captain, Genus is the first Bull from the offensive side of the ball to be named to the first team since Andre Hall picked up first team kudos in 2005.
A Pensacola, Fla. native, McClain started all 12 games at defensive tackle, registering 23 tackles on the season with three sacks, 4.5 TFL and six quarterback pressures. USF has placed a defensive lineman on the first team for each of the last three seasons.
Bogan, who is a Thomasville, Ga. native, finished the regular season with 46 catches for 670 yards and five TDs. The 46 catches rank fifth on USF's single-season list, the 670 yards rank second and his five TDs are tied for fifth. During his career, Bogan has posted 106 receptions (No. 5 on USF's all-time list) for 1,519 yards (No. 3 on USF's all-time list) and 11 TDs (No. 3 on USF's all-time list).
Raymond, a former walk-on turned captain, started all 11 games in which he played. After making the switch from safety to corner early in fall camp, Raymond was fifth on the team with 52 tackles, four TFL and a team-high seven PBU.
Anchoring the right tackle position in all 12 contests, Sims is the Bulls most seasoned lineman with 31 starts in 46 games played. A three-time Academic All-BIG EAST selection, this marks Sims' first on-the-field honor.
In his first season as a starter at linebacker, Williams, who is also a captain, led the team in tackles with 68 and TFL with 9.5. He picked his game up as the season went on and posted 41 tackles, 7.5 TFL, 2.5 sacks, an INT and a PBU over the final six games of the regular season.
USF has earned 13 first-team and 22 second-team All-BIG EAST honors since joining the league in 2005.
