TAMPA- One day after placing seven players on the coaches All-BIG EAST teams, four members of the University of South Florida football team have picked up ESPN.com BIG EAST All-Freshman Honors.
Freshmen DE Ryne Giddins, LB DeDe Lattimore, S Mark Joyce and WR Terrence Mitchell were all named to the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team by ESPN.com on Thursday afternoon.
Giddins, a redshirt-freshman defensive end, appeared in all 12 games, earning two starts for the Bulls. Giddins collected 3.5 sacks, good for second best on the team. Giddins also recorded 19 tackles including six for a loss of yards. The talented freshman also picked up his first career interception in an overtime win over Louisville.
Lattimore left fall as the starting WILL linebacker after redshirting in 2009. Lattimore played in all 12 games, earning starts in 11 of them. Lattimore was third on the team with 60 tackles, and also added a pair of sacks and four tackles for loss in 2010.
Joyce entered 2010 as a true freshman and saw playing time in all 12 games earning a start against Louisville. Joyce picked up 27 tackles and hauled in one interception on the year which he returned for a touchdown in the season opener.
Mitchell, who began the year as a defensive back, switched to the offensive side of the ball in the second half of the year. He scored his first career touchdown on a reverse against Pittsburgh. The true freshman saw much of his time as the Bulls punt returner as he averaged 10.2 yards per return for a total of 194 yards on the season, including a long of 67 yards which came against Western Kentucky.
The Bulls will take on Clemson in the Meineke Car Care Bowl on Dec. 31 in Charlotte, N.C.
