TAMPA - As part of a weekly series, GoUSFBulls.com will spotlight a current member of the University of South Florida football team to help fans get to know the player behind the number a little better.
This week's featured Bull is senior tight end
Kevin Gidrey, who came to USF for his final year of eligibility after playing four seasons at East Carolina for former ECU and current Bulls head coach,
Skip Holtz.
Check out how one of the newest Bulls is adjusting to his new surroundings...
GoUSFBulls.com: How have your first couple weeks been in Tampa?
KG: "It has been good. I really don't know my way around that much but I'll learn. As far as the team, I've been getting along great with all the guys. It's been different learning 125 different personalities coming from ECU when you've already bonded with a group for four years, and you transfer for a year. I'm getting along with the guys, trying to have a great season. We let one down at Florida but I'm sure we'll bounce back."
GoUSFBulls.com: What was the deciding factor to transfer to USF?
KG: "When the new coaching staff came in, they brought in a spread offense with them and the role as a tight end isn't used as much as it is in Coach Holtz's offense. I was lucky enough to be able to apply for a post-graduate transfer and get my last year of eligibility here at South Florida."
GoUSFBulls.com: How would you compare USF to East Carolina?
KG: "The only thing that changes to me is the colors of the jersey, to tell you the truth. It's just learning new faces, and once I learned the new faces and the people, I felt right at home"
GoUSFBulls.com: What was the biggest adjustment coming to Tampa?
KG: "The heat - without question. When we went to Vero Beach, some of the guys at the tight end role went down so it was just me and (Andrew) Ketchel rolling with the one's and two's and that heat really took its toll. It burned me out quick, I had to adjust. I'm still adjusting now but I'm getting used to it."
GoUSFBulls.com: What is your favorite thing to do in Tampa?
KG: "To tell you the truth, I haven't really been out too much. I've just been with the guys. I haven't really seen too much of Tampa yet, but I'm looking forward it."
GoUSFBulls.com: Being from Virginia Beach have you checked out the beaches of Clearwater/St.Pete?
KG: "I love the beach but I haven't been to the beach at all, yet. I'm definitely going to have test out the beaches. Maybe with the bye week I'll be able to see them."
GoUSFBulls.com: Favorite restaurant in Tampa?
KG: "To tell you the truth, all I do is go to the Marshall Center and eat, every day. Usually around noon."
GoUSFBulls.com: What do you miss about ECU?
KG: "I miss a lot of things. Greenville is a great little town that really embraces the school and the football team. I made a lot of great relationships during my four years there and I'm looking forward to going back. I might be flying back to see ECU play Virginia Tech."
GoUSFBulls.com: What's the difference between Greenville and Tampa?
KG: "Greenville is much more compact. It is a town where everybody knows each other. Tampa is much bigger, more spread out and more diverse with so many different nationalities."
