Team Notes
- USF improves its record in season openers to 10-4 all-time with tonight's 59-14 win over Stony Brook ... The victory was the Bulls' fifth straight and the sixth in the last seven openers ... The five-win stretch is USF's longest winning streak in season openers , and includes victories over McNeese State (41-10) in 2006, Elon (28-13) in 2007, Tennessee-Martin (56-7) in 2008, and Wofford (40-7) last year, in addition to tonight's triumph.
- USF's 59 points are the second most scored in a season opener, and the most since the program's inaugural game on Sept. 6, 1997 when it defeated Kentucky Wesleyan 80-3 ... The 59 points surpassed the 56 scored against Tennessee-Martin in a 56-7 win on Aug. 30, 2008.
- USF improves its record to 10-0 in openers at home.
- The Bulls continue to be perfect against NCAA Football Championship Series (FCS) (formerly NCAA I-AA) teams since joining the NCAA Football Bowl Series (FBS) (formerly NCAA I-A) in 2001 ... USF improved its record to 13-0 against FCS foes, with all 13 wins coming at Raymond James Stadium.
- Following tonight's win, USF continued to remain perfect against teams from the Big South Conference, improving to 5-0 ... Prior to tonight, all of the Bulls' previous wins against teams from the Big South came against Liberty (4-0) ... Before Stony Brook visited Raymond James Stadium, the last time that USF faced Liberty was Oct. 27, 2001 when the Bulls defeated the Flames, 68-36.
- USF wore its popular white helmets for just the fourth time ever tonight against Stony Brook ... The Bulls improved their record to 3-1 all-time when wearing the white helmet with tonight's win ... USF donned the white helmet for the first time in the St. Petersburg Bowl against Memphis - a 41-14 win - on Dec. 20, 2008 at Tropicana Field ... The Bulls also wore them at home against Cincinnati (34-17 loss) on Oct. 15, 2009 and in the International Bowl against Northern Illinois (27-3 win) on Jan. 2, 2009 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ont.
- Tonight's attendance of 40,201 marks the 16th time in the last 19 games at Raymond James Stadium - dating back to the 2007 season - that the Bulls have played in front of a home crowd of 40,000 or better.
- USF improves its all-time record to 96-57 with its win over Stony Brook ... In addition, the Bulls are now 60-14 all-time at Raymond James Stadium, since moving into the venue in 1998, and 66-18 all-time at home (Tampa Stadium and Raymond James Stadium).
- USF also improves its record in night games to 66-37 and in games in 80-degrees or hotter to 40-14.
- Former Bull and 2010 No. 1 NFL Draft pick of the New York Giants Jason Pierre Paul was in attendance at tonight's game vs. Stony Brook.
- USF's touchdown on the first play of the game marks the first time in the program's history that it scored on the first play from scrimmage on the first series of the year ... In addition, the one-play TD is the fourth time in program history that it scored on the first play of the game ... The Bulls also accomplished the feat on Nov. 1, 1997 on a 94-yard kickoff return by Charlie Jackson against Charleston Southern; on Sept. 12, 1998 on a 15-yard run by LaFann Williams against Valparaiso; on Oct. 7, 2006 on a 16-yard run by Matt Grothe against Connecticut; and a 16-yard run by Ben Williams against East Carolina on Dec. 23, 2006 in the PapaJohns.com Bowl.
