Bulls Finish 10th at Mobile Bay Intercollegiate
February 22, 2011 | Men's Golf
The University of South Florida men's golf team carded a final-round 295 to finish in 10th place at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate on Tuesday. The Bulls three-round total of 890 was 27 strokes off the 1-under 863 posted by champion Middle Tennessee.
"We had a great opportunity and we let it slip away," USF head coach Chris Malloy said. "But that's part of the learning process in becoming a championship team. We responded well in some situations and some of the guys came back strong in the final round."
"We didn't finish the way we would have liked, but there were some positives, and I think our guys can maintain their confidence as we get ready to host another tournament next week."
Devin Patel was the low scorer on Tuesday for the Bulls, finishing his final round in 1-under 71, but Aaron Fitzpatrick was the top finisher for the event after carding an even-par 72 for the second-straight round to finish the week at 5-over 221 and in a tie for 21st place. The even-par rounds are Fitzpatrick's lowest of the year as well.
Devin Hernandez toured the Magnolia Grove Crossings Course in 74 strokes on Tuesday after rounds of 76 and 73 on Monday. He finished in a tie for 32nd at 7-over 223.
Rick Kittelstad posted a 79 on Tuesday to finish at 10-over 226, but still finished third among Bulls and tied for 44th overall on the strength of his season-best 68 during Monday's second round. Patel placed in a tie for 59th, unable to overcome two 79s on Monday with his solid final round.
Bodi Karsono rebounded somewhat from a disappointing 82 in his second round to card a 78 on Tuesday. He finished in a tie for 67th at 15-over 231.
The Bulls return to the course when they host the USF Invitational on March 4-6.
