The University of South Florida women's tennis team makes the short trip to Gainesville on Tuesday to take on No. 2 Florida at 3 p.m. ET. USF head coach Agustin Moreno has his team at 1-1 on the season and ranked No. 25 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
"Florida could end up being one of the best teams in the nation this year, and I feel like our team has a chance to do well,” USF head coach Agustin Moreno said. “This is the beginning of a big week for us, and the girls are looking forward to it. I trust that they are ready and that we can come out and play with nothing to lose vs. one of the most consistent programs in the country."
The Bulls should be a tough draw for the Gators, who are 4-0 and have won every match this season via shutout. Four Gator players are ranked among the top 30 individuals in the nation, including No. 7 Allie Will. The Bulls' Irene Rehberger sits at No. 24 nationally and will likely be matched up with Will at the No. 1 spot.
There will also be competitive doubles matches as both USF and Florida have a pair of doubles teams ranked by ITA. Loreto Alonso Martinez and Janette Bejikova are currently ranked No. 25, while Rehberger and Ecaterina Vasenina are 45th. Florida features the top doubles team in the nation in Sofie Owen and Will while Caroline Hitimana and Joanna Mather are ranked No. 56.
Following the match, the Bulls will head to the West Coast for matches vs. No. 19 Southern Cal and No. 67 San Diego on Feb. 10 and 13, respectively.
Live results for the match will be available online at www.gatorzone.com.
