USF To Host BIG EAST Championships

TAMPA - The BIG EAST Conference has announced dates and sites for its Olympic sport championships in the 2011-12 and 2012-13 academic years, and the University of South Florida will host eight championships over the two-year span. The sites were awarded by the BIG EAST Championship and Competition Committee.
The selections included a number of first-time events. USF will host the BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Championships for the first time in 2012 and will serve as a first-time host of the BIG EAST Softball Championship in 2013. The BIG EAST Men's and Women's Golf Championships will be held in Orlando, Fla. and co-hosted by USF in 2012 and 2013.
In addition, USF will also host the 2012 BIG EAST Men's and Women's Tennis Championships.
The BIG EAST will conduct 36 championships in 11 states, with 12 schools serving as host institutions in the two-year timeframe announced Wednesday. Also, for the first time in conference history, the BIG EAST will conduct separate men's and women's golf championships.
The sites for the 2012 and 2013 BIG EAST Baseball Championships will be announced in June by the Championship and Competition Committee.
