Bulls Shutout at Michigan, 7-0

The No. 50 University of South Florida women's tennis team dropped another road match to a highly-ranked opponent on Friday, losing to No. 5 Michigan 7-0 in Ann Arbor. The loss sends the Bulls to 5-10 this season as they next travel to Ohio State for a matchup with the Buckeyes on Sunday.
“We didn't have a very good day today,” USF head coach Agustin Moreno said. “It was tough for us to adjust to playing indoors, and Michigan is a very good team inside. We'll move on to Ohio State and hope to play better on Sunday.”
The Wolverines lineup featured four individuals and two doubles tandems ranked by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, and that was too much for USF as the Bulls picked up only one set on the day.
No. 94 Whitney Taney clinched the match for Michigan with her 6-1, 6-2 win over Loreto Alonso Martinez in the No. 4 position. The doubles point was secured by Taney and Rika Tatsuno's 8-4 win over Irene Rehberger and Ecaterina Vasenina.
The top three singles matches featured showdowns between ranked opponents. At No. 1, Rehberger, ranked No. 47 by ITA, fell to No. 8 Denise Muresan, 6-2, 6-1. In the second spot, No. 75 Brooke Bolender downed No. 100 Ecaterina Vasenina, 6-4,6-2, and in the third match, No. 70 Janette Bejlkova dropped a third-set tiebreaker to No. 63 Sam Critser, 3-6,6-4,1-0 (4).
The top doubles matchup was also a pairing of two ranked tandems. No. 14 Muresan and Bolender defeated No. 46 Bejlkova and Martinez in the last doubles match to leave the courts.
The Bulls and Buckeyes begin play at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
