TAMPA - Jerrell Young has snatched up Big East recognition for snagging away Notre Dame's chances of a victory Saturday.
The USF senior safety was named Big East Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after forcing a fumble that resulted in the Bulls' first score against the Irish and getting his hands on an interception that helped the team preserve a 23-20 win over the 16th ranked team in the nation.
It marks the first-career Big East honor for Young, who added seven tackles in one of the biggest victories in the program's history.
Young wasn't the only Bull the Big East took notice of either.
Kicker Maikon Bonani made the conference's weekly honor roll by scoring 11 points against Notre Dame. The junior made field goals from 49, 17 and 36 yards out, and his 49-yarder tied a career best.
