Bulls Set Up Meeting With No. 11 Miami

The Bulls have set up a meeting with No. 11 Miami after they kept rolling on the tennis court Saturday.
The USF women defeated UC Santa Barbara, 5-2, in the first round of the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Coral Gables. The two-round event ends Sunday with a 2 p.m. championship match between the Bulls and the Hurricanes, who swept Cal State Northridge, 7-0, on Saturday.
The ITA Kickoff Weekend is taking place at 15 different school sites throughout the country. The winner from each site automatically qualifies for the ITA Women's National Team Indoors Championships Feb. 17-20 at the University of Virginia.
"It's a great opportunity. They are a tough team and I think it's going to be a battle of who is more fit," said USF head coach Agustin Moreno of Miami. "They are a good team, but I know we are also a very tough and fit team."
The Bulls (3-0) made sure Saturday wasn't going to be an endurance test by earning four victories in singles play against UC Santa Barbara.
Ecaterina Vasenina gave USF a 6-2, 7-5 win over Natalia Lozana at No. 1 singles. The Bulls followed with two-set victories by Loreto Alonso Martinez and Danielle Mills at No. 2-3 singles. Alonso Martinez is now 3-0 in singles play this spring and was named Big East Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Fanny Fracassi and Lucie Rey took care of business in No. 2 doubles by toughing out a 9-7 victory over Jordan Dockendorf and Kiersten Meehan. The victory was sealed in No. 3 doubles when Mills and teammate Paula Montoya earned an 8-1 win for USF.
