No. 59 Bulls Participate In Michigan Invitational

Ann Arbor, MI, JAN. 19, 2014 – A pair of freshmen picked up USF's two victories on day two of the Michigan Invitational Sunday afternoon at the Varsity Tennis Center in Ann Arbor, MI.
Olaya Garrido-Rivas defeated 57th ranked Mai El Kamash of Ole Miss in a tiebreak 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7) at fourth singles. The victory is the first over a ranked opponent this spring for the Bulls. Vera Bessonova remained undefeated in singles play this weekend besting Iris Verboven 6-3, 6-2 at sixth singles.
Olga Martinez lost a tightly contested match 7-6, 7-5 in fourth singles while Kayla Rizzolo had another strong showing at first singles falling 6-3, 6-4. Fanny Fracassi nearly forced a tiebreak dropping a 6-0, 7-5 match.
The Bulls had a pair of close matches in doubles versus No. 11 Michigan as Rizzolo and Loreto Alonso-Martinez lost 6-4 to ninth ranked Brooke Bolender and Emina Bektas at first doubles. At third doubles, Bessonova and Martinez were bested by Laura Ucros and Sara Remynse 7-5.
USF will conclude play tomorrow as they take on No. 20 Georgia Tech in singles action before squaring off with No. 35 Ole Miss in doubles play later in the day.
