TAMPA, OCT. 20, 2014 – USF senior wide receiver Andre Davis has been named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week after his spectacular 154- yard, three-touchdown day in the Bulls 38-30 victory at Tulsa.
The award marked the first for Davis who now owns 11 USF receiving records including career yards (1,864), touchdowns (14) and 100-yard games (6) and stands one reception shy of tying the school's career receptions record of 131. Davis is the fourth USF player honored as an American Conference Player of the Week this season.
Davis record five of his six catches, 149 of his 154 yards and all three of his touchdowns in the second half as USF mounted the largest comeback in program history to come from 27-7 down at halftime and record their second conference win of the season. Davis scored all three of his touchdowns in succession during a 15-minute period that saw USF go from trailing 30-14 to leading 35-30 with 6:13 to play. His 85-yard touchdown catch put USF ahead for good and tied for the second longest pass play in Bulls' history.
Davis equaled the USF game record for touchdowns and became the program's all-time leader in 100-yard games, posting his second straight since his return from injury.
Davis' presence has sparked the USF offense, which is averaging 381 yards per game since his return after posting just 233 yards per game through the first five games, of which Davis played just two quarters. Davis has posted back-to-back 100-yard games and four touchdowns while averaging 139 yards, six catches and two touchdowns per game since his return. Quarterback Mike White is averaging 264.5 yards and two touchdowns per game while completing 56.7% of his passes since Davis returned to the field.
Davis helped spur a USF offensive explosion of 310 yards and 31 second half points at Tulsa, which propelled the Bulls to their most points since USF downed UTEP 54-24 on Sept. 24, 2011, a span of four seasons and 40 games. It marked the Bulls most points in a road game since posting a 41-10 win at N.C. State in 2008, most in a conference game since a 38-30 win vs. Cincinnati in 2010 and most in a conference road game since a 48-37 win at Pittsburgh in 2007. The Bulls 412 yards of total offense marked the Bulls most vs. an FBS opponent in coach Willie Taggart's two seasons and second only to 485 yards vs. Western Carolina in this year's season opener. It was the most yards for the Bulls vs. an FBS team since USF logged 552 yards in a 36-37 loss to Syracuse on Oct. 27, 2012.
USF (3-4; 2-1 American) heads to Cincinnati (3-3; 1-1 American) Friday for a 7:00 p.m. primetime match-up on ESPN2.
The USF Football program is in its 18th season and 15th at the FBS level. The Bulls have made six bowl appearances, including every season between 2005-10, and have four bowl game victories.
