USF Extends Winning Streak, Defeats Penn State 6-1

TAMPA, March 10, 2014 – USF extended its winning streak to eight matches as the Bulls took down Penn State 6-1, Monday afternoon at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
The Bulls got off to a great start in doubles quickly winning in the first and second spot. The tandems of Loreto Alonso-Martinez/Kayla Rizzolo and Olaya Garrido-Rivas/Fanny Fracassi both posted 8-2 victories.
In singles action, USF won five of six matches to seal the victory. Garrido-Rivas, Fracassi, Vera Bessonova and Olga Martinez all posted straight set wins for the Bulls. Loreto Alonso-Martinez needed a third set to best Dasha Sapogova 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 in the first singles spot. Kayal Rizzolo won the first set but eventually fell to Katia Blik, 5-7, 7-5, 10-7.
USF has a day off before hosting SMU in an American Athletic Conference match-up. The match is set to get underway at 11:00 a.m. at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts beginning with doubles.
