ATLANTA, JAN. 31, 2015 – Olaya Garrido-Rivas beat a nationally ranked opponent in No. 59 USF's 6-1 loss at No. 18 Georgia Tech on Saturday at Ken Byers Tennis Complex.
Garrido-Rivas dropped the first set before rallying past No. 63 Johnnise Renaud, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5, in the top singles spot. Garrido Rivas also turned in a gutsy performance Wednesday when the sophomore from Spain took a set from No. 6 Brooke Austin of No. 2 Florida in Gaineville.
Also taking a nationally ranked opponent to a third set was sophomore Olga Martinez, who got off to a fast start in a 2-6, 6-1, 6-0 loss to No. 81 Natasha Prokhnevska. Martinez, a sophomore from Spain, started the week with a three-set singles battle with No. 11 Brianna Morgan.
The Bulls continue their road trip Tuesday, Feb. 10 in Fort Myers, Fla., where they'll face off against FGCU, coached by former USF assistant Courtney Vernon. USF's next home match is Saturday, March 7 against North Florida at 11 a.m. Admission is free at the USF Varsity Courts.
