TAMPA, JULY 21, 2015 – The University of South Florida has named former Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Brian Clark to the position of assistant director of athletics for major gifts, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Mark Harlan announced today.
Clark will join the USF Athletics development team led by Senior Associate Director of Athletics/Associate Vice President of Development Mark Muhlhauser. He will work specifically with identifying and cultivating major gifts and planned giving as well as corporate, leadership and foundation gifts.
“We are excited to welcome Brian back to USF Athletics in this important position as we continue to build toward an exciting future,” Harlan said. “Brian's familiarity with USF, experience as a former student-athlete and NFL player and long-standing ties in the Bay Area will all be valuable assets for our program.”

Clark, who played five seasons as a receiver in the NFL, returns to USF Athletics after previously serving as academic and student-athlete development coordinator (2011-12) and working closely with Lee Roy Selmon in the creation of the Bulls' Enhancing U life-skills program.
“Lee Roy Selmon was a tremendous mentor for me and introduced me to the rewards of working in collegiate athletics and assisting student-athletes,” Clark said. “I'm excited to return to USF and once again have the opportunity to interact with our great Bulls supporters as well as impact our student-athlete's experience and success on and off the field.”
Clark returns to USF after working for the last two years as a pharmaceutical sales specialist in the Bay Area for AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals. He graduated from North Carolina State University in 2006 with a bachelor's degree in parks, recreation and tourism management and went on to play five seasons with the NFL's Buccaneers, Denver Broncos and Detroit Lions. While in the NFL, he recorded 11 receptions for 100 yards, 29 kickoff returns for 636 yards and 72 tackles on special teams.
“Brian is a development professional who truly understands what philanthropy means to a student and an institution,” said Joel Momberg, USF Senior Vice President for Advancement and Alumni Affairs and CEO of the USF Foundation. “He, himself, benefitted from the generosity of others when he was a student and has a strong desire to spread that message to others. We are proud to have him as a member of our team.”
Clark went on to earn a master's degree in sport management administration from Liberty University in 2012 and currently is working toward a master's of business administration degree at USF.
“Brian will be tremendous representative for USF Athletics with a proven passion for excelling at whatever he does,” Muhlhauser said. “His familiarity with the Bay Area, athletics and professional sales will serve him well, and I am confident he will be a great addition to our development team.”
A native of Tampa who attended Chamberlain High School, Clark remains active in the Bay Area working with the Freddie Solomon Boys and Girls Club, serving as treasurer of the Tampa chapter of the NFL Players Association and coaching with the Palm Harbor University High School varsity football team.
Clark lettered in both football and track and field at N.C. State. As a receiver for the Wolfpack football team, he recorded 78 receptions for 1,311 yards and 11 touchdowns on his career. As a sprinter on the Wolfpack track and field team, Clark competed in the 60 and 200-meter indoor events and the 100, 200 and 4x100-meter outdoor events. In his first race as a collegiate runner, Clark posted the sixth-fastest 60-meter time in school history.
Clark and his wife, Shawntae, have two children, Christian and Joya.
