
Women's Tennis Shuts Out Iowa For Six Straight Win

TAMPA (March 16, 2016) – The USF women's tennis team extended its winning streak to six matches Wednesday afternoon, defeating Iowa, 4-0, at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
For the fourth time in the last five matches, the Bulls (8-5) put on a strong performance in doubles and secured the early lead. Sophomores Jessica Cortes Chaves (Monterrey, Mexico) and Juliana Cardoso (Descalvado, Brazil) clinched the doubles point for USF with a 6-2 win. The victory moves Chaves and Cardoso to 6-1 in doubles this season.
The Bulls continued their strong play into singles. Playing at the premier spot, Chaves earned the second point of the afternoon for USF, as she defeated her opponent in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.
USF freshman Ana Roman Dominguez (Spain) quickly pushed the lead to 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win on court two. The win for Dominguez improves her singles record to 7-3 on the season.
The final point for the Bulls was clinched by freshman Nicole Dzenga (Harare, Zimbabwe) on court six. Dzenga looked sharp and won in straight sets 6-1, 6-3.
The Bulls are back in action Friday, March 18, as they take on Columbia at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts at noon. Admission for all home matches is free to the public.
