NEW ORLEANS, La. (Feb. 19, 2017) – The USF women's tennis team competed in a close match against conference opponent, Tulane (10-2) but ultimately fell, 4-3.

After losing the doubles point in a close tiebreak, the Bulls looked for four wins in singles action. USF took the first set on five courts, and Juliana Cardoso made quick work of Naz Karagoz. A 6-3, 6-2 straight-set win by Cardoso put the Bulls on the board. On a neighboring court, Ana Roman Dominguez topped Kyla Klier 6-3, 6-0 to give the Bulls their second point. Vera Bessonova won her match after Tulane clinched, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.

Tulane took straight-set wins on courts four and six against Olga Martinez and Jessica Cortes Chaves giving the Green Wave a 3-2 lead, meaning the match would be decided by the courts three and five. Nicole Dzenga fought to a close third set, but couldn't finish the job. Sade Atkinson clinched the match for Tulane 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.

In doubles, the Green Wave's Atkinson and Ivone Alvaro defeated Dzenga and Vanja Klaric, 6-2, but Cardoso and Martinez answered with a 6-4 win to split the doubles point. With the attention turned to court three, Jessica Chaves and Roman Dominguez broke Christina Sisti and Klier and forced the match into a tiebreak.
