Bulls Place 8th Over Weekend In Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. FEB. 27, 2017 – In a stacked field with 12 top-25 teams, the University of South Florida sailing team finished eighth at this weekend's Charleston Women's Intersectional.
The Bulls had led for nearly the first quarter of the regatta prior to Saturday's conclusion. The host College of Charleston finished one spot ahead of the Bulls with a five-point differential. Boston University was the overall winner, followed by Brown, Stanford, Dartmouth, George Washington University and Georgetown.
Key Stats
· In the A division, juniors Sarah Streater (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and Mandi Dickie (Minneapolis) and senior Tiffany Nicholson (New Port Richey, Fla.) finished 11th.
· The Bulls saw a superb effort in the B division, as senior Alison Knoles (Grosse Ile, Mich.), sophomore Rachel Yannelli (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) and freshman Delaney Brown (West Palm, Fla.) finished second with two first-place finishes.

Head sailing coach Allison Jolly on the regatta:
“It was very important for us to learn how to sail in strong currents. Conditions were tough, we made some mistakes, but we have three more opportunities to sail in Charleston before Nationals. We are looking to build upon the things we did well and improve in the areas in which we lacked.”

USF will head further north for next weekend's event at the Old Dominion Women's Intersectional in Norfolk, Va., on March 11 and 12.
