Joins Adams and Mack as third Bull taken in 2017 Draft,
Most Bulls taken in Draft since 2013 , 28th USF Draft pick overall
TAMPA, APRIL 29, 2017 – USF tackle Kofi Amichia (Riverdale, Ga.) was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the sixth round of the 2017 NFL Draft on Saturday.
Amichia, the 212th pick overall in the draft, became the third-ever Bulls' offensive lineman to be selected in the NFL Draft and joined teammates Marlon Mack, a fourth-round pick by the Indianapolis Colts, and Rodney Adams, a sixth-round selection by the Minnesota Vikings, as the third Bull taken in the 2017 NFL Draft. The three Bulls drafted marked the most since three were taken in the 2013 draft. USF football saw its total of NFL Draft picks rise to 28 in 20 years of the program, 17 in the last seven Drafts.
A first-team all-conference selection in 2016, Amichia started all 13 games at left tackle and finished his career with 26 consecutive starts. He helped the Gulf Coast Offense set school records with 77 touchdowns, 47 rushing touchdowns (second in the FBS), 3,714 rushing yards and 6,650 yards of total offense, while ranking in the top 20 in the nation in sacks allowed (1.15). With Amichia on the left side, the Bulls extend their nation-leading streak of 30-plus point games to 17 as the 297-pound tackle paved the way for USF to finish the regular season ranked fifth nationally in rushing offense (291.8 ypg), eighth in scoring offense (43.6 ppg) and ninth in total offense (515.1 ypg).
USF finished the 2016 season ranked No. 19 in the Associated Press poll with a school record 11 wins following the program's fifth-ever bowl victory in the Birmingham Bowl. The Bulls' 11-2 record marked the fifth-best winning percentage in FBS football in 2016 and one of just 11 teams to reach 11 wins. USF set nearly 40 team and individual records in 2016, including team records for total yards (6,650), rushing yards (3,714), touchdowns (77) and scoring (569). Junior quarterback Quinton Flowers was named the American Conference Offensive Player of the Year and led a school-record 10 players named to the all-conference team, six of which, including Flowers, will return in 2017.
