March 26, 2018 | Women's Sailing
TAMPA, MARCH 26, 2018 – The University of South Florida sailing finished fifth at the year's first team race, the Duplin Women's Team Race hosted by Tufts University.
The first half of the regatta was a round-robin, one full rotation. There were eight other schools entered, and USF raced against each school once, one group at a time. The Bulls were 6-2 following the first round-robin. It was the second best record of all the teams (Tufts went 7-1).
The groups were then divided into the top six for the final round. The bottom three got placed in the consolation round for a final round-robin. The Bulls fell in the five races against the top-six and finished 6-7 on the weekend, tied for fifth with Boston University.
NOTA-BULLS
Head coach Allison Jolly on the outcome of the year's first team race:
"It unfortunately got cold and windy, with snow showers blowing the snow sideways. Definitely not our ideal condition. But overall it was an excellent showing for us. Every one of the other teams was nationally ranked, with most in the top-10."
