The USF women’s tennis team beat Western Michigan, 6-1, for its third win of the season.

TAMPA (March 4, 2018) — USF women's tennis wins its third match of the season, 6-1, against Western Michigan.

After juniors Nicole Dzenga (Harare, Zimbabwe) and Vanja Klaric (Serbia) clinched the doubles point on court two, the Bulls won four straight matches in today's victory.

At the No. 1 spot, junior Ana Roman Dominguez (Spain) defeated her opponent, 7-6(5), 6-2, after winning the tie breaker in the first set.

Alexandria Mjos (Austin, Texas) clinched the match for the Bulls on court six beating Gabriela Slavova in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4.

Jessica Cortes Chaves (Monterrey, Mexico) and Klaric also beat their opponents in two games, while Dzenga went to a third set that resulted in a super tie breaker and won 7-5, 5-7, 10-8.

Juliana Cardoso went into an intense third set, but ultimately fell to her opponent, 4-6, 6-0, 5-7, at the No. 3 spot.

In doubles, Alexandria Mjos and Ana Roman Dominguez gave up only one point to their opponent in their win on court three.

Cardoso and Cortes Chaves went unfinished in their doubles match on court one.

"I thought today was good. I think we definitely needed this win, and a convincing win for sure. I thought Vanja [Klaric] did really well getting off the court really quickly, but we're hoping to build some momentum. Hopefully this is a start."
