USF Alumnus Roberto Cid Reaches Career-High World Ranking After ATP Challenger Finals

SHYMKENT, Kazakhstan (May 13, 2018) – USF alumnus Roberto Cid recently reached his highest career world singles ranking at 248 after reaching the ATP Challenger finals in Shymkent, Kazakhstan.
 
Cid, a graduate of USF in 2016, moved up 44 spots after four straight wins that landed him in the finals of the Challenger event where he took on No. 114 Yannick Hanfmann. Cid fought to three sets, including a first-set breaker, but fell 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-2.
 
The tournament was played on clay and began with a round of 32. Cid won the round of 32 (1-6, 6-0, 6-1) over No. 224 Tsung-Hua Ynag. He defeated two opponents in straight sets in the round of 16 and the quarterfinals including No. 203 Nino Serdarusic (6-2, 6-4) and No. 143 Sebastian Ofner (6-2, 6-1). In the semifinals he faced No. 113 Hugo Dellien. After dropping the first set in a tiebreak, he fought to a three-set victory, 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-1.
