Undefeated Roman Dominguez Earns Second Ranked Win in Bulls Loss to LSU

TAMPA, Jan. 19, 2019 – The USF women's tennis team (1-2) fought for every point against the LSU, but lost 6-1, at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.
 
Ana Roman Dominguez (Burgos, Spain), beat sophomore No. 13 Eden Richardson (Bath, England), with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 win on court one. The senior is 3-0 on the premiere court this season, and after today Roman Dominguez has two ranked singles wins including one over No. 88 Natalia Boltinskaya (FAU).
 
Three of the six matches went into third sets, showing the Bulls' resilience and toughness to not shy away from a fight. "We proved again today that we're so close to really making a breakthrough," said head coach Cristina Moros. "We just really need to make the little adjustments during the match."  
 
The first court to finish was between senior Nicole Dzenga (Harare, Zimbabwe), and sophomore Luba Vasilyuk (Dallas, Texas), on court six with a score of 6-2, 6-3. Freshman Amelie Boy (Trianon, Mauritis), and junior Paris Corley (Grants, N.M.), finished next in two sets with a win for LSU, 6-2, 6-3, on court five. Freshman Laura Pellicer Perello (Gandia, Valencia, Spain) won her first set against No. 72 ranked senior Kennan Johnson (Baton Rouge, La.), but ultimately fell 5-7, 6-1, 7-5, on court four.
 
Sophomore Evelyne Tiron (Bucharest, Romania), fought to two tiebrakers against senior Jessica Golovin (New York, N.Y.), but fell, 7-6(2), 7-6(1), on court two. Sophomore Taylor Bridges (Mesa, Ariz.), but lost 2-6, 7-5, 6-7, on court four. Vanja Klaric (Gaborone, Botswana) and sophomore Taylor Bridges (Mesa, Ariz.), closed out the match on court four with a win by LSU, 6-2, 5-7, 7-6(6).
 
In doubles, the Bulls fell in two games to the Tigers. Junior Janvhi Clark (Tauranga, New Zealand) and Pellicer Perello fell 6-2, to No. 30 Bridges and Corley.
Seniors Klaric and Dzenga lost to No. 9 Golovin and Richardson, 6-4. Court two went unfinished.
