ATHENS, Jan. 25, 2019 – Senior
Ana Roman Dominguez defeated No. 1 Katarina Jokic in straight sets in USF's 5-2 loss to Georgia, at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Tennis Facility, in Athens, GA., on Friday afternoon.
Roman Dominguez (Burgos, Spain), extended her win streak to 4-0 when she beat Jokic (Novi Grad, Bosnia) on the top court on Friday afternoon. Roman Dominguez and Jokic battled in a tiebreaker for the first set, 7-6(4), before Roman Dominguez sealed the win, 6-2, in the second set.
The Bulls battled ranked opponents on each court, and ultimately could not overcome the Bulldogs. After taking the doubles point, Georgia clinched the match with straight-set wins on courts four, two and three over senior
Vanja Klaric (Gaborone, Bostwana), 6-0, 6-1, freshman
Laura Pellicer Perello (Valencia, Spain), 6-4, 6-3, and sophomore
Evelyne Tiron (Bucharest, Romania), 6-3, 6-1.
As the Bulls played out the remaining courts, freshman
Amelie Boy defeated No. 107 Elena Christofi in a tightly contested match. Boy fell, 5-7 in the first set before battling to a long tiebreaker in the second, 7-6(6). The pair played a super tiebreaker in lieu of a third set since the match had already been clinched, with Boy claiming a 10-7 victory.
Despite a Bull's win on court three by doubles tandem Pellicer Perello and
Janvhi Clark (Tauranga, New Zealand), USF could not secure the doubles point. Seniors Klaric and
Nicole Dzenga (Harare, Zimbabwe) fell, 6-1, followed by Roman Dominguez and Boy who went down 6-3.
