Boy Clutches Second Win of the Season for the Bulls
ATHENS, Jan. 26, 2019 – Freshman
Amelie Boy (Trianon, Mauritis), earned a win on court five to secure a 4-2 victory for the Bulls, as they took down William & Mary for their second win on the season at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Tennis Facility, in Athens, GA., on Saturday afternoon.
After USF (2-3), won the doubles point, Roman Dominguez came out swinging. The senior allowed only one point in the first set to her opponent junior Rosie Cheng (Auckland, New Zealand), and then won three unanswered games in the second set to win, 6-1, 6-2 and add the Bulls' lead to two.
William & Mary won two straight points when sophomore
Evelyne Tiron (Bucharest, Romania), competed in a three grueling sets, but eventually lost to junior Natalie Perry (Export, Pennsylvania) 7-5, 1-6, 7-6(5). Meanwhile, freshman
Laura Pellicer Perello (Valencia, Spain), lost in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5, to senior Clara Tanielian (Ensues-la-Redonne, France).
Senior
Vanja Klaric (Gaborone, Botswana) regained the USF advantage and showed her ability to close and won her match 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.
Boy then took matters into her own racquet, and won in straight-sets, 6-3, 6-4, to ensure the Bulls would grab the fourth point needed to win the match.
The match between senior
Nicole Dzenga (Harare, Zimbabwe), and junior Charlotte Madson (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania), went unfinished with each player winning a set, 6-3.
"This was a great win for us today," said head coach
Cristina Moros. "We battled and were able to pull out a really tough win."
The Bulls secured their second doubles point of the year with a clutch performance by Dzenga and Klaric. With doubles tied up at 1-1, from a win by the pairing of Roman Dominguez and Boy, and a loss from Pellicer Perello and Clark, Dzenga and Klaric fought for every point to win 7-5, against Tanielian and Cheng and obtain the doubles point.
