Bulls Improve to 3-0 at Home in February With 5-2 Victory Over Mississippi State
TAMPA, FEB. 22, 2019 – USF extended its home winning streak in the month of February to three matches by swinging past Mississippi State, 5-2, on Friday afternoon.
USF (5-5) dropped the doubles point with losses on courts two and three, but the Bulls had success on court one. Seniors
Vanja Klaric (Gaborone, Botswana), and
Nicole Dzenga (Harare, Zimbabwe) cruised to a 6-0 victory over Mississippi State's pairing of sophomore Magda Adaloglou and freshman Tamara Racine.
In singles play on court one, No. 44
Ana Roman Dominguez (Burgos, Spain) beat No. 89 Adaloglou in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. It marked Roman Dominguez's fourth win over a ranked opponent this season and improved her singles record to 8-1.
Nicole Dzenga (Harare, Zimbabwe) kept the momentum going with a 6-4, 6-1 victory on court six against senior Janina Braun that gave the Bulls a 2-1 lead.
With the match tied at 2-2, freshman
Laura Pellicer Perello, (Gandia, Valencia, Spain) won in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3, on court five against junior Sara Lizariturry. As this match was ending, freshman
Amelie Boy (Trianon, Mauritis) toughed out a win in her match after briefly going down with a cramp in her leg. She battled in the third set to a 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 victory against Racine on court four.
The final match to finish was between Klaric and senior Anastasia Rentouli. Action was tied at 1-1 and went into a super tiebreaker before Tiron went on a streak to secure a 7-5, 6 (1)-7, 1-0 (6) victory on court three.
