Bulls Improve to 2-0 in Conference Play

TAMPA, MARCH 12, 2019 – USF won its second conference matchup of the season against SMU, 4-1, to stay undefeated in The American on Tuesday afternoon at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
 
USF (7-7, 2-0 AAC) won the doubles point from the help of duo Laura Pellicer Perello (Gandia, Valencia, Spain), and Janvhi Clark (Taurange, New Zealand), as well as the pairing of Ana Roman Dominguez (Burgos, Spain), and Amelie Boy (Trianon, Mauritis). Clark and Pellicer Perello crusied to a 6-1 victory on court three, while Roman Dominguez and Boy rallied down 1-3 to win 6-4 and clinch the doubles point.
 
Senior Nicole Dzenga (Harare, Zimbabwe), came out swinging on court five to win her first set 6-0. She then rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win her match, 6-0, 6-2, extending the Bulls' lead to 2-0.
 
Pellicer Perello kicked it into overdrive to win in straight-sets, 6-3, 6-2, on court four against senior Ana Perez-Lopez, pushing USF's lead to 3-0.
 
No. 43 Ana Roman Dominguez (Burgos, Spain) fought in her match against No. 114 Liza Buss, but eventually fell 6-1, 6-4, on court one, for just her second loss of the season.
 
Senior Vanja Klaric (Gaborone, Botswana), dominated in her first set on court two, 6-0, and rallied in a tiebreaker to win her match 6-0, 7-6(4), and clinch the victory for the Bulls.
 
Mjos and sophomore Nicole Petchey on court six, as well as the match between Boy and redshirt senior Vivienne Kulicke went unfinished.

Head coach Cristina Moros on Tuesday's victory:
"As a group we really committed to staying positive at all times, and I think that positivity eventually turns into belief at some point. When we do that on all three courts of doubles, and all six courts of singles, it's a very special thing, and I think we showed that today."
